CAS 2021 Action Theme – Resilient Economic Recovery
One of the Action Themes at the Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS) 2021 is Resilient Economic Recovery.
Why is Resilient Economic Recovery an Action Theme at CAS 2021?
The COVID-19 crisis has clarified the underlying vulnerability in our economic and social systems. Multiplying shocks in 2020 – the ongoing climate crisis compounded by the pandemic and economic collapse – have highlighted that the climate crisis will continue to collide with other risks, affecting especially the most vulnerable.
How is CAS 2021 going to make a difference on Resilient Economic Recovery?
As governments around the world take action to respond to and recover from the COVID-19 crisis, it is a critical moment for the world to “build back better” – to redesign our economies and societies to become more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive.
The CAS 2021 Closing Event on Resilient Economic Recovery will bring together key decision makers to jointly deliver the message that building resilience to climate impacts will be critical to COVID-19 response and recovery efforts and must be funded as such. They will:
- Highlight concrete risks and opportunities for adaptation finance in the context of COVID-19, factoring in key adaptation challenges, solutions, and the COVID-19 impact on existing efforts.
- Promote real-time peer learning among DFIs, practitioners, and policymakers to help countries build forward better, securing a climate-resilient recovery.
- Lay a foundation for associated commitments, policies, and programs to be announced by partners throughout 2021.
