What do I want for my country?
In the series of articles by our Youth Newsroom reporters, Thaiane Maciel from Brasil asks: what can we young people do?
We always expect the government of our counties to come up with solutions for the environment. But what if governments don’t act? What can we young people do? We need to act more than ever! We need to be resilient, but we also need to create conditions for us to adapt to climate change. Pollution is something that affects countries around the world. Unfortunately, developing countries like Brazil (my country), where basic sanitation for the entire population is lacking, end up suffering directly from this.
Kaleo, my 22-year-old brother, decided to start the project "Limpar o Mundo". One day, after hearing my many complaints about the pollution of the streets and the sea, he walked the streets and alongside the shore and came back with a bag full of garbage.
I am an environmental engineer; graduated from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and I create environmental awareness videos on Canal Novo Mundo. For me, thinking about solutions wasn’t enough. I needed to apply them. I needed to get my hands dirty! My brother was a big inspiration for me to make a difference by doing something to change the reality here on Ilha do Governador.

The project has no sponsorship, but it has a lot of desire and commitment for change! We Brazilians want a clean and greener country!
And you? What do YOU want for your country?
